The future...Mrs. Michael Forrest Johnson!!!

I am proud to announce the engagement of our son Michael, to the lovely Valerie Holmes. We are so excited to have her in our family and hope that she will come to love us, like we love her. They have a funny story about how they finally came to know they were in love, they will have to share it. But nonetheless, we are so thrilled to add another member to the family.
The date is set for January 7th in the Salt Lake Temple, with a reception here in Boise on January 14th.

We spent the evening watching the game at Jeff and Laura's! We watched Jack hit the baseball...I mean a real hard ball with a metal bat. Let me tell you...the kid can HIT the ball. He has all the moves. The nod, wind-up when he pitches. And the batting stance is legit! He is so cute. And Luke is right behind him!
We enjoyed pizza, well most of us did; I was too nervous to eat! And Laura made her famous chocolate chip cookie pie for dessert. It was FABULOUS! And the game was SPECTACULAR!
Jack and I now have our own celebration routine, and it is AWESOME!!!

Kevin's Last Weekend

I am so behind in posting things that I figured I might as well just throw a few things out here.
Kevin has been gone 2 months and will leave for Indonesia on Monday, June 13th. Check out his mission blog for his flight itinerary. He is in for quite a ride!!!
The night before we left to take him to the MTC, we had a nice family dinner and tried to get a few family pictures. We were missing David, Melissa's husband, but it was nice to have the rest of us together. BTW- we love you David! And we really did miss you!!! I tried to fix Kevin's favorite meals, and have his favorite treats, I think I was successful. We had pork chops, Chicken of the World, and chocolate chip cookies. I can't remember what else!
It was such a fun weekend! I absolutely adore my family and I am so thankful to have them in my life. I am truly blessed.
And now the real fun begins for Kevin. I am so excited for him and I know he has done his best to learn and prepare himself to go teach the people of Indonesia. The language has not been easy but he has given his all and I know where he falls short the Lord will make up the difference. Isn't that the truth for all of us!!!!

Random Spring Happenings

As you know, Jeffrey, Laura and their boys have been living with us for a while. I posted back in the fall what a GREAT helper Jack was proving to be! He was cleaning with me and might I say doing a fabulous job! Well, sad to say they are moving next weekend into their very OWN house.( We are very happy for them.) Jeffrey was offered a great job with a company called Alethia ( not sure of the spelling) and they also bought a house. We are REALLY going to miss them. There is nothing like coming home from work to Jack running to the door with the sweetest two year old greeting! "Hi Leelee" or "Leelee's Home". Oh my...I am going to miss that! Well, Saturday I bought a few geraniums and wanted to get them in the pots. Turns out Jack is a MASTER gardener too! What ever will I do without him!

And you know, after a long hard day one MUST have a treat!

Also this Spring, Andrea, Ryan and the girls moved into their house! I thought the best way to help would be to keep the girls over night. Here is a picture of the kiddos waking up "SLEEPING BEAUTY"!!!

And finally. If you ever wonder how tired a Bishop is after a long day of church. Take a look at this. Poor guy! I sure love him and appreciate all he does for our ward family. And of course for our own family. He is AMAZING!!!!

Happy Mother's Day

There is SOOO much that I need to catch up on in my blogging world. But I didn't want to let today go by without saying something about mothers.
I can not say enough about my own mother. She passed away about 6 years ago and I have missed her everyday since. Ruth Gibson Bleazard. She was a perfectionist in everything, but never made me feel like I had to be perfect. She was somewhat demanding, had a bit of fiesty side to her and had her own opinions. She loved a clean, orderly house and although they didn't see eye to eye on everything, I know she loved my dad very much. I learned so much from her. And am so thankful that I was chosen to be HER daughter.

My mother-in-law, was the epitome of the PERFECT mother-in-law. Lucile Curtis Johnson. She never judged me, she let me complain to her about her son, and she taught me so much about how to be a good mother-in-law to my own married children. I love her very much and miss her too.
My daughter, Andrea, is an amazing mother. I marvel at her ability to cope with 4 darling girls, ranging in ages from 1-7, support a busy husband, serve, and still have a great sense of humor. Andrea is dedicated to her family and I admire that so much. She is a good, loyal friend and I consider her one of my best friends.

Melissa, my second daughter, is a patient, soft-spoken mother and DID NOT learn that from me. I absolutely LOVE watching her mother her boys. She is a friend to all she meets and I know that she would willingly do anything for anyone in need. I love that she is creative and loves to try new things. She is kind, loving and caring. I love the word meek, and believe that it describes her perfectly. She lives in TX, which makes our time together very special. She too, is one of my best friends.

Laura Hessing Johnson is my daughter-in-law. Married to Jeffrey. I gave her the same advice that my MIL gave me. Complain to me about Jeff, not to her mother. I will love him anyway because he is my son. Besides I know him best and can help her understand him. She is a fantastic mother to two very energetic little boys that adore her. As they should. After all in their eyes, "she's the best girl in the world". She rolls with the punches, is learning more about sports than what she might want too, and is so great with her boys. I love her like my own daughter and am so blessed to have her in my life.

I also have two sisters. Kathryn and Diane and a sister-in-law Kristie. They are wonderful women and mothers. I have learned so much from them.
And I have two sisters-in-law by marriage. Joanie and Sydnie. They are amazing women too.
I do have to take this opportunity to say something about Sydnie. She is such an important part of our family. My children and now my grandchildren, ADORE her. I have often said they love her more than me, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. She has been so good to us over the years. Although she has no children of her own, I hope she knows that she has had a mother's influence over all of us. There is a quote that goes something like this, "You need not to have borne children to be a mother". That is how I feel about this wonderful, talented, giving, patient, creative woman. I have such respect for her.

So there you go. All these beautiful women have impacted my life. I am so honored to know them and to be taught by them, to call them my family and friends.

Happy Birthday to my baby boy! I can hardly believe that he is 19 years old and 2 weeks away from leaving for the MTC! I can't decide if him leaving last June for school was a good thing or not. I mean...he has not had much time at home and we will only get about 4 days once he gets done with finals. BUT...I do have to say that he has grown up and matured while he has been gone and just MAYBE it won't be quite as hard when he leaves for his mission since he has already been gone. Does that make sense?
All I can say is that I love this boy. He is a true "MOMMA'S BOY" and I will miss our phone calls and hearing him say, "love you momma" when we say goodbye. He will be a wonderful missionary and I know the people of Indonesia will come to love him as I do.
Kevin, you are special boy to me...my baby. I love you more than words can express.

Just a quick shout to my special Valentine! I figure it will be our 34th. I love this man and am so thankful that he is my best friend, love of my life, father of our children, and eternal companion. He makes me laugh, makes me happy, accepts me for who I am, and unconditionally loves me.

Elder Michael F. Johnson RETURNS!!!

December 2nd. All is well in the world again. Michael RETURNED with HONOR from his mission in South Africa. After 26 grueling hours of travel arrived in Boise, to the welcoming face of his little brother! Kevin flew in from SLC an hour before and waited at the gate for him. Kevin said the look on his face was perfect surprise. We didn't tell Michael that would be happening! It was SOO good to see him. He looks good. A little skinny, but that smile could light up a room. In fact...IT DOES!!!
Sydnie, Ryan, Andrea, the girls and Logan were there to greet him. It was interesting that there were 4 missionaries that returned that night.
Can I just say that it is SOOO good to have him home. The house is full of music and laughter. He had an amazing experience and we have heard so many wonderful stories, and a few that I am glad I didn't know about til now!!!
Before he left, he gave Jeffrey some money to buy some CD's that he wanted. Jeffrey made sure it was done and I had direct orders as to how they should be lined up. Michael's eyes about popped out of his head when he saw them. I had ordered a cell phone for him, we couldn't have him without(haha) and he was amazed at how far tecnology on phones had gone.
We met with the Stake President the following morning, he was given his release and some wonderful advice. The first thing he did in the dcar was turn on his music and it hasn't ended since! We renewed his driver's license, bought him some shoes and had Gandolfos!
Michael plans to pursue his music, and attend Boise State! He is looking forward to seeing his big brother. I cannot wait to see that reunion...it will be very special.
The time has flown by and in some ways doesn't seem like he was gone. Although I do find myself staring at him quite often, It drives him NUTS!! And now...Kevin has received his call. So here we go again!
Welcome home Michael. I am so proud of you and so grateful to our Heavenly Father for your safe return. I love you, son!

Indonesia--- Are You Kidding Me?

Kevin was able to get all his mission papers and interviews completed. They went in on Monday the 13th! And on Thursday, December 23rd, he got his call. As you can see the picture, we had Laura on one cell phone and Jeffrey on the other, we didn't want them to miss out on the reading of the letter!
Reporting April 13, 2011, to the Provo MTC, he will be going to the Indonesia Jakarta mission, speaking Indonesian. I was not prepared for that. He was thinking somewhere cold, he prefers cold weather to warm, and what did he get? HOT and HUMID!!! Kevin is so excited, and we are thrilled.
Long story, but George has a business friend who lives in Jakarta, and was able to email him with the news. Come to find out, this guy's wife, (they are not members), met the mission Pres. wife in a local grocery store and struck up a conversation. It is nice to know that Kevin has a contact there is he needs one.
We were able to go to the temple with Kevin. It was very humbling to see 4 of my 5 children, and my 2 sons-in-law, in the temple. Knowing that Jeffrey and Laura would have been there if they could, was comforting. It was a wonderful experience.
I am overwhelmed, excited, proud and anxious. I know Kevin will be a fantastic missionary, and is ready to go. I, on the other hand, am just getting used to having Michael home and not sure I am ready to send another one off so soon. This is my baby! BUT...it will be wonderful to have another son in service to the Lord. I feel so privileged.
I am grateful that he is worthy to go and has the desire to serve. As I have always told Michael and Jeffrey, and now Kevin, a mission blesses the rest of your life! Kevin will be blessed as he serves and is obedient. And our family will also be blessed. This I know.

Wisdom Teeth- Gone!

Just a few pictures showing the fun of the last week or so!
Ok maybe not so fun for Kevin!
Kevin had his wisdom teeth out the day before Thanksgiving. Crazy I know but he wants to get his mission papers in ASAP and this was the only time we could figure out. He did AWESOME. Without any major drugs, just 4 Advil, laughing gas, and numbing shots, he got all four pulled, stitches in three, and was AMAZING!
He also had his friend Sarah with him. She lives in Indiana and wasn't planning on going home for Tday, so Kevin invited her here. It was wonderful having her in our home, but I felt bad that Kevin wasn't able to entertain her. It was a rather boring weekend for her.
I was so grateful that he wasn't travelling alone with the bad roads, and it was a pleasure meeting her. Thanks for coming Sarah, and for being such a trooper!
Maddie and Mia also got a little sledding in on Papa's hill. Carrie too, but she didn't last as long as the other girls.
And of course, the snow storm that brought a little treat in with it- a SNOW DAY!!! It was perfect timing. I was able to catchup on a couple things that I wanted done before Mikey gets here...TOMORROW!!!

Worth Sharing

Michael is now sound asleep during the last night of his mission. He will spend the night in the mission home and catch his flight at 9:30pm, Wednesday. He flies to London, has a lay over and then is off to Seattle. He SHOULD arrive in Boise Thursday night at 10:50pm.

Sunday he had a baptism...what a blessing to end his mission with one last baptism. I was so happy for him.
Thought this picture was worth sharing...he still has his goofiness- thank goodness! Check out the collar!

Run Trevor Run!!!

Melissa ran a half marathon recently in Galveston and Trevor was able to run his own race! I thought it would be fun to send a "good luck" message to him so he would know I was cheerin him on!
Trevor is such a delightful young boy. He will often call me on my way to work and just hearing his sweet voice makes the day better. I can't wait for them to come and spend the holidays with us.
We are praying for snow so that we can sled on Papa's hill with his cousins, and are planning other fun things to do while they are here.
I CANNOT WAIT!!!
Congrats Little Big Man on running your first race. Leelee loves you and is SO proud of you!

Twenty-Five Days

Today marks twenty-five days until Michael gets home. It is so hard to believe that the time has gone by this quickly.
Honestly I have been so negligent in posting these last few months. Summer has come and gone and as I watch the changing of the seasons it is difficult for me to remember all that has happened.

I know I posted Kevin leaving for BYU. By the way, he is doing so well. He had a very good summer term. Learning to balance work, school, church and social life. He would probably say, "What social life"!!! Before we knew he had started Fall term! He continues working at the RB- can't thank David enough for helping him get that job- studying hard and doing well in his classes. And he was called as one of two Elder's Quorom Presidents. This was a huge shock, sort of! His Bishop gave him little hints all summer, so I think he was somewhat expecting it. But it has been an incredible learning experience and I have seen him really carry the mantle of the calling. He is learning some great leadership skills that will serve him well on his mission. He would leave tomorrow if he could. He is so excited to go on his mission. May cannot come soon enough for him. I, on the other hand, like the idea of having a few months with my "little boys" at home. I LOVE having missionaries out in the field and will be ready to send him out, but I plan to enjoy the next six months!!!

The next thing I did not post, is I had knee surgery August 4th. After 2 falls that hurt my shoulder and broke a toe, it was a relief to get it done. I had a significant meniscus tear and some scar tissue removal, but feel great now. I am so thankful to have that behind me. Thanks to the sweet Smith Family. They came over to dust, and vacumm and I just happened to have a few BSU tshirts for them. Aren't they so cute! THANK YOU!!!!

Melissa and the boys visited during the summer. We had so much fun swimming, playing and having the 2nd annual "Papa Sleepout". The kids loved it! We ate popsicles, hung out with Papa at the MK Nature Center, went to the Zoo, and just enjoyed spending time together. I love my babies!!!

So that is just about it. Now I am here with a few short weeks til Michael returns. With holiday preparations, BSU football and getting things ready for Mikey time will FLY by and he will be here before I know it. I can't express enough the joy that comes to a mom, in anticipation of a returning missionary. This big old house has not been the same without him. I can't wait to hear his laugh, his music, and to see that happy face of his.

December 2nd- 10:50 pm. Will it really happen? I am 0-2 with my missionaries coming home on the day they were suppose to. George was delayed and ended up staying overnight in New York. Jeffrey was delayed and had to stay overnight in Atlanta. Both of their flights were to land in the early evening. With Michael's late arrival, is there ANY chance that he will get in on time? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! I will keep you all posted!

Boise State has had a couple of really awesome things come their way lately. The regional cover of Sports Illustrated and Nike's Pro Combat Uniform.
Although some don't care for it, (ARC), I think the new uniforms are great and when they get the kinks out of the helmets, I hope to see them on the BLUE!
The cover of SI was sweet! Hopefully my connections at BSU can get the autographs of those studly Broncos who are the front!
This could be quite the year for my Broncos. No matter what, win or lose, I am proud to wear the ORANGE and BLUE and would even throw in some gray!!!

Kevin is a BYU Cougar!

This is long overdue, as are many other posts, but I wanted to be sure to document Kevin's arrival to BYU. My son, my baby, is a very motivated, passionate, and head strong young man. It has always been his goal to attend the summer session at BYU. Some have wondered if it was the only way he got accepted. May I say...ABSOLUTELY NOT! Kevin knew what he wanted very early on and worked very hard to acheive this goal. He is finding out it is not cheap to go to school, but we assure him that with hard work and sacrifice it is possible. The Lord has blessed him so much.
With the help of David, our son-in-law, he was able to get a job at the "RB". Now for all of you Y folks, you know what that is and how coveted those jobs are. The "Richards Building" is the Rec. Center. David, Ryan and Melissa all worked there. It was a one of a kind job. Kevin is very fortunate to work there. As the newbie, he does however have less than desirable hours. But hopefully, when the new semester begins, that MIGHT change. Thanks to David for "throwing" his title (he was the student manager for a few years) and weight around, and helping Kevin get that job. May the tradition live on, of the Jones, Cutler and Johnson clans working there!!! BTW...they will hold his job for him while he is on his mission too!!! Cool beans!
Kevin's living at Heritage Halls and seems to really like it. It is "dorm life" personnified. He has a meal plan that allows him to eat on campus BUT he also gets to use part of it for groceries so he can cook for himself. I think it was a perfect fit for him. He has great roommates, all very different, but they get along well and seem to be having a good time.
Kevin is a smart young man, and I know he will do great in his school work. College work will be very different and it may take a while to adjust, but I have every confidence that he will be fine.
Saying goodbye is always difficult, but I didn't cry! I have the attitude that I spent the last 18 years raising him, now let's see what he can do. Yes, I miss him. Yes, the house is very empty without him, but I am so grateful he is there. BYU is an amazing place. Everywhere you go, you feel something that words can't quite express. I feel a wonderful peace within, knowing that he is there. I felt the same way when Melissa was there. It is THE best place for kids to go for a top notch education and great experiences.
Can I wear the "BLUE", like most? Only if it has a lot of ORANGE to go with it!!!

Happy Father's Day

Couldn't let this special day go by without a shout to my husband, son, sons-in-law, and "little boys". And I can't leave out my own father and father-in-law. My favorite memory of my father is the way he said my name. It was like music to my ears. He just had a way. And those BLUE eyes of his...they seriously twinkled!! My father-in-law was a tease. He did a great job of passing it on to his son too! I loved the way his face would light up when Jeffrey would eat 3-4 helpings of WHATEVER it was we were eating. He loved his grandchildren.
I have the BEST young men in my life! Jeffrey is a wonderful father to Jack and Luke. I am so proud of him and all that he is doing in his life. David is an amazing father to Spencer and Trevor. I know it because I have seen the joy in Trevor's face when his Daddy walks in the door! Ryan, you are the perfect man to be the father of FOUR precious little girls. Your tenderness is so touching and I know they absolutely adore you!
Although Kevin and Michael are not fathers yet, I just want to say how thankful I am for them. They are such fine young men and making wonderful choices in their lives that will help them prepare to become great fathers.
To my husband- thank you for all you do! You are a wonderful husband, father and PAPA George. I cannot imagine our life being any other way than it is. We had dreams of our life together 33 years ago and here we are living it. Words don't do justice. But simply, I love you.
I love you all! I am so blessed to have all of you in my life.

I couldn't let tomorrow and Monday happen without getting a little post done. Tomorrow is my baby boy's last day of high school! I cannot believe that my children are finished with public school! It has been 24 years!!!

You have been a joy, most of the time(heehee), and have taught me many valuable lessons. Like, doing your best at all times really is important...ok maybe I taught you that! But I want you to know that I love you with a very special love. You are my baby. My last. You have had to endure 4 older siblings, teasing, and hand-me-downs! I hate to admit that there really are fewer pictures of you than Andrea,(the oldest child). I will never forget your special bond with Carly(our dog of 15 years). When you were sick, she would be sad. And the way you used to touch your face with her soft little ears...precious! I will never forget the many adventures of "the little boys". You and Michael were so darn cute. I am so thankful that you still have a good relationship with him. Although it was tough on ME I will always be impressed with your decision to switch schools your 9th grade year. That was huge! I know it made a difference in your life. I am so proud of how hard you have worked at your studies. I am in awe at your abilities...top 10% of your class is very impressive! It will continue to payoff as you further your education at BYU. I am so excited for you. YES, I will miss you, but I know it is the place and time for you to be there. Go have a BLAST!!!
Lastly, I want to thank you for being a good boy. You are a man of integrity and honor. Stay that way... be worthy to enter the temple, serve your mission, and be married in the House of the Lord. These steps will bless your life FOREVER!!! Always remember who loves you best(MOMMY) and look to your father as a role model and advisor. He loves you too. We are so proud of you, Kevin!

Wow-it has been TOO long!

I am not even sure how to so this anymore. I finally have my new computer, although I haven't downloaded any pictures yet. I will soon have a full update on the latest happenings in the Johnson family!
Kevin is winding down his Senior year, headed off to BYU for his "dream" summer term. Something he has always wanted to do. He is looking for a job down there so he can get going. Maybe as soon as June 1st. I am so excited for him. A little sad at my "baby" leaving the nest but more excited than sad. He will do awesome and is ready for a change of scenery and friends. More to some on Prom, Rugby, and graduation.
Michael is doing so well. It is amazing that we are down to about 7 months. I try not to count but this is crazy! It has gone by so fast. He is now in a township and loving it. I will soon have updates, information about the township and some recent pictures on his blog.
The Cutlers are doing great. It was a long haul for a while with various things going on but Andrea is an amazing mother and Ryan a great support. Their girls are beautiful and I love every one of them.
The Joneses are keeping it real in Texas- Trevor is a sweet boy and I enjoy our weekly talks on the phone. Spencer is an amazing "deep breather" on the phone, and is growing and changing. It is so hard to be so far away, but as long as they are well and happy... well that's all I can hope for. I love them all so much!
Jeffrey has been in a whirlwind of school, work,and internships and Laura has been along for the ride! Bless her heart. It will be over soon. He "walks" for his Masters Degree on April 26th...and finishes class July 1st. Jack is absolutely adorable and we anxiously await the arrival of the next Johnson boy sometime in the next week.
I guess I just gave you a brief update, hadn't planned on it. I will get some photos up soon and hopefully some more details on the new baby and Kevin's future.
Here is one recent picture of Michael at a baptism they just had. He said it tied his mission record. Five baptisms in one day!! WOOT WOOT!!! Doesn't he look adorable-man I love that boy.

Callie Cutler

Callie arrived safe and sound on February 22, 2010. She arrived at about 11:20 pm, weighed 7.13lbs, and 20.5 inches. She is so adorable!!! Andrea was amazing! It was a such a priviledge to be there at such an intimate time. Thanks Ryan and Andrea...you are wonderful parents and those 4 little girls are so blessed to have you as their parents. I am blessed to have you all in my life!

The long awaited news came today! KEVIN will be a BYU COUGAR!!! As I have posted before, this has been his dream FOREVER! And he has wanted to get started as soon as possible, so he will start June 21st for Summer Term! We are all so excited for him. His siblings are proud of him and I am so grateful that his hard work and dedication has paid off. He really DESERVES this. So...
RISE and SHOUT the COUGARS are OUT!!!
Sydnie and I are so excited for ROAD TRIPS!!! And shopping! George will love the skiing opps and when Michael gets home he may even try to get in. That would be AMAZING! The two "little boys" could room together. That may be getting ahead of myself, so we'll hold that thought!

A Parent's Pay Day

The other day I got a call from the Vice Principal at Capital High, whom I have known for quite a while. She left a message saying I needed to call her, it was about Kevin. After a little pause, which seemed longer than it really was, she said nothing is wrong, just give me a call.
Well, Kevin had been selected as the "Student of the Quarter"!!! ONE student, every quarter is selected, what an HONOR!!!! We were invited to attend the Faculty Meeting for the award presentation, unfortunately, it was at 7:30am on a morning when Kevin didn't need to be at school that early!
It was a humbling experience. Kevin's teachers all wrote something about him, and why they thought he deserved the award. By the way...I am not sure HOW he was chosen. I know the teachers were notified AFTER the selection was made. I was so humbled by this young man and what he does each day at school. He has been a 4.0 student since 6th grade, participates in sports, is active in Honors Society and is responsible in his church calling. The things his teachers said made me realize even more that Kevin is a GREAT friend,classmate and young man. ( I know...I already knew it.)
Here's a few of the things his teachers wrote:
"Kevin always has an infectous smile on his face. One look at him and the whole day brightens up. I have seen his classmates go from gloom to bloom after simply chatting with Kevin for a short time. He is always willing to help others when the need arises. It is no wonder that he is so well liked by his peers and teachers. Kevin is an outstanding student. He is self-motivating and strives to achieve at a high level. He has the unique ability to keep students around him on task, and many times they do not realize he is doing it. It is an honor and a pleasure to have Kevin in my Physics class this year. He is a class act!"

"...he is a leader in a quiet, confident way and is well-respected by his peers. He has the warm-hearted, positive attitude needed to achieve his goals but also help others to achieve theirs.

His energy and drive has helped with leading his section and it feels as if he has been in my choirs for 3 years. He is compassionate and brings such a positive energy to class every day."
If being proud is a sin...I have a lot of repenting to do. I love this boy so much. He will graduate in the Spring and his hope is to attend BYU in the summer. See...he really is motivated. The spring of the following year (2011) he will go on his mission.
I love you Kevin! You are such an inspiration to me and to those around you.

End of the Year Post!

I have a lot of catching up to do and not really sure exactly where to start. I suppose I'll start with Melissa's visit. I can't tell you how excited I was to have her and the boys here. I hadn't seen Spencer since he was born and of course having Trevor here is always such a treat. Unfortunately my 2 weeks of missing work because of pneumonia cut out any time I was hoping to take off of work but it all worked out ok. I was thrilled that Melissa was here for Kevin's Championship game. And although that didn't turn out quite the way we had hoped, it was fun to have her and the boys here for it. We also had her here for Thanksgiving!! It was SO fun! I love her so much and marvel at her patience and sweetness with her children. I am taught everyday by my daughters and daughter-in-law. They are all such wonderful mommas!!

On to Kevin's game. Capital had an amazing season. Going undefeated and headed into the Championship game against Eagle. Of course we all had hoped these fine young men would reach their ultimate goal of being CHAMPIONS but it was not meant to be. On one of the strangest 2 point conversions I have ever seen, Eagle beat us by 1 point. Backing up a bit, Kevin was selected as a captain for the game which was such an honor. I was very proud of him. He had an incredible season and I know he was disappointed that they didn't win, but I was so impressed with how he conducted himself afterward. Instead of being onry, moody and angry, he was positive and satisfied with how he did. He was not happy they lost but he knew he'd done his best and left his heart on the field. I'll say it again...I was so proud of him.

Next came Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful dinner, AND... Michael hit the ONE YEAR MARK of his mission. That in itself was unbelievable. But it was a very nice holiday.

We finally received pictures from Michael. George and I spent about 2 hours one night just looking at them. He is in a beautiful place, serving among beautiful people. I might as well combine this with his phone call on Christmas Day. After a little stress with the calling card, we got through and had a wonderful talk with him. All the kids were here, along with Sydnie and the best surprise of all was that Melissa called on my cell phone and was able to hear him through the speaker phone. When we answered the phone he was speaking Afrikans! It was very interesting to listen to. He had an accent for the first little while but it slowly dissappeared. He is doing SOOO well and is very happy. The missionaries can hardly keep up with the members referrals and they do a lot of street contacting. They try to focus on families, especially with fathers. And they are having a lot of success. He is loving the area and loving the people even more. I knew he'd be a good missionary and as long as he was obedient the Lord would bless him. Be sure to check out his blog to read his emails and see a few more pictures. Not that I am counting because I don't for another 10 months or so but he said his release date will most likely be around Dec.1st.!!! WOW!!!

Christmas was wonderful! We are looking forward to next year as we will have Michael home, Melissa and David and the boys here AND two new grandbabies!!! It will be a wild time and EVERYTHING I have ever dreamed and hoped for. Christmas Eve jammies for all and a new family picture!!!

George has almost completed his 3rd tithing settlement as Bishop. I am amazed at his countless hours of service and I know he loves and cares for each ward member. I have learned so much through his example and I am so grateful to have this amazing man in my life. I am also thankful to good counselors and his faithful executive secretary that work so diligently and offer such dedicated support. We are truly blessed!

By the way, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on Nov. 16th!

As I reflect back on the year it has been a good one. We continue to be blessed beyond measure and are thankful for the gospel in our lives, for our dear family and for our Savior Jesus Christ.

Next up... we are headed for the Fiesta Bowl! Kevin and Jeffrey will be with us so it ought to be fun. I only wish Laura could go with us. Thanks Laura and remember our deal!!!

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Melissa and her boys were here. State Championship(so sad), Thanksgiving, Michael hit the one year mark!

After the BSU game we all gathered here at the "FRP" for a little TRICK or TREATING! Can I say that our grandkids are so darn CUTE! Where else could you find a beautiful FAIRY, Snow White, A GREEN M&M, and our very own "JACK"-o-latern. Not to mention the "CHEF" and his "BUN" in the oven! Yes that is for real...baby #2 due May 1st!
We also had our own short version of Young Frankenstein with Sydnie giving us line by line! It is her favorite show and she can do all the parts all on her own!
We had a phone call from our trick or treaters in Houston where Trevor was none other than...LIGHTENING MCQUEEN!!!
We are so blessed to have these sweet babies in our family. The parents aren't too shabby either!

BSU game with our Special Friends~ Collin and Andrew

With Kevin at his Capital Singers Retreat we had TWO extra Junior tickets for the BSU football game. We had often talked about inviting a couple of boys from the ward to go with us. We knew our special friend Andrew loved the Broncos and thought it would be fun to invite him. Then we found out another young lad we know, and Andrew's good buddy, also liked BSU and so the decision was made...Collin and Andrew would come to the game with us!

We had SO much fun with them. They were quite chatty on the way down and the closer we got to the stadium, the louder they became. They were so AWESOME! We rode the shuttle over to the stadium, which they thought was pretty cool. Sorry, no pics, my hands were too full to wrangle the camera. But once we were in our places it was so fun to watch them take in the scene. I was rather disappointed because I couldn't wait to see their faces when the team ran through the helmet with the smoke blowin out of it...they didn't. There was a malfunction or something so we missed that. BUT, the first touchdown was awesome and I must say the HOTDOG on Andrew's face and the sheer joy of that pretzel on Collin's face was absolutley PRICELESS! These two boys were so well behaved and so much fun. It brought back floods of memories of our own two "little boys" and why we started going to the games together in the first place.
Thanks Andrew and Collin for coming to the BSU game with us. WE LOVED IT!! Hopefully you did too!
(The ride home was a little on the quiet side. I think the cool air and long game tuckered em right out!)

Jeffrey, Laura and Mr. Jack!

Jack is getting to be quite the little man. I cannot believe how big he is getting! I love these pictures of the Johnson Family in their BSU gear.

As you may know, Jeffrey graduated in August with his Bachelor's in Communications and is currently working on a Master's in Athletic Administration. All the while, he works at the testing center AND is doing an UNPAID internship with BSU football operations. This has been an amazing experience for Jeffrey.
I cannot say enough about our WONDERFUL daughter-in-law Laura! She is an angel and a trooper. She spends many a day and evening alone while Jeffrey is gone and does it so well! Thank you Laura for your support of Jeffrey. I KNOW the day will come that the sacrifice will be worth it and you will have your husband back! Of course, the field he has chosen to work in may be demanding of his time. But I want you to know that we love you and are so proud of you and appreciate what you do for Jeffrey so he can accomplish his dreams and goals.
We are so blessed to have this sweet family part of our own family!

Our sweet granddaughter played her first season of soccer this fall. Ryan, her daddy, was the coach. We had so much fun going to her games and cheering her on. We are so proud of her for trying so hard. I am not sure she was convinced that it was really what she wanted to do, but she did her best and she looked AWFULLY CUTE in her shirt and darling pink and black cleats! We love you Maddie.
We also enjoyed playing with Mia at the playground during the games and of course with Carrie there is never a dull moment!

Catch-up? Where do I Start?

I suppose this is why you should update at least weekly. My blogging efforts have been "NIL" for many reasons. I am not quite sure where to start and when I downloaded 93 pictures and saw all that I have missed, I am at a loss. SO... there will be no rhyme nor reason, it will not be in order, and... well I will just get on with it!
Kevin is a SENIOR at Capital High School and is the starting middle-linebacker on their now 8-0 football team. Wearing #31!!! We arrived at one of his games to find that he was named CAPTAIN for the game, after a fantastic effort the week before. He wanted to surprise us, so of course, we got into the stadium right at the beginning of the game and had to rush to get our camera out to take some pictures. Kevin has had an outstanding season. As a team and individually. Unfortunately, he injured his wrist a few weeks ago and has to battle with that. But he continues to play solid football. He received his "GHURKA", a black helmet, that is earned by consistent play, leadership on and off the field and winning. This is a long time Capital High tradition and is quite an honor. We are SO proud of him.

He went to Homecoming, but we still don't have pictures of him with his date. This is one I snapped as he was rushing out the door. He looks SO handsome!! He has been busy with Capital Singers, they just had their McCall retreat, and of course continues to give a solid effort in the classroom. He is now facing college application season, and is planning on attending BYU if all goes well. He hopes to go for the summer session, which means he is gone a few weeks after graduation. He is a motivated, hard-working and determined young man and has a plan. I just know he'll make it happen!
I couldn't let this opportunity to pass by...could be great blackmail someday.

I was recently contacted by a man that Michael taught and baptized while serving in Edenvale. He graciously sent me pictures of the "Big Baptism Day" that Michael experienced a few weeks ago. I have included the email he sent me, I thought it was so cute how he said how much Michael likes his wife's cooking. Not a surprise, huh?

I was listening to Sports Talk the other day and they said that if BSU loses, they predict the fans will fold. Let me just say...NOT ME!!!

What in the World is a Braii???

Reading Michael's emails are always a treat. He writes EXACTLY how he talks. He is ALL OVER the PLACE! I often have to Google things to learn what he is talking about and today is no exception. So in order to follow what I am talking about go quickly to his blog and read the email, it's a good one, and then come back and learn what is he is talking about in his last sentence.

So you're back! Well, it is not spelled "BRAII", so Mikey not to spell correctly, it is "BRAAI". It rhymes with "cry". This is the Afrikaans word for BARBEQUE! And all the info I read tells me it is quite the PARTY!!!
Here's something off one website I found.

"You can ask any South African braai-enthusiast what is the best thing about braaing and they will probably respond with: "The gathering of good friends, a double (2 tots) brandy and Coke and the smell of "braai vleis" (meat cooking) in the air".

Explaining your pardon, braaing is the South African way of cooking meat on an open fire. "braai" Is an Afrikaans word - Native to South Africa. Generally speaking, the type of meat most commonly used is Chops (Sheep's meat). Other meat types commonly braaied is steak, sausage (Wors), chicken and pork. The meat is usually prepared with a common meat spice and then cooked to taste - medium to rare, well done etc.

What makes braaing different from barbecuing is that a braai is only a braai if an open fire (using wood) is used as an heat source - not gas or charcoal. A fire is lit and then allowed to burn out till only the sizzling red hot coals are left over. During the time the fire takes to burn out an alcoholic drink is enjoyed usually brandy and Coke or a good beer complimented by good conversation. The average fire (+- 12 pieces of wood) will take about an hour to burn out until it is ready to braai on. The meat is then placed on a roster that is then placed over the red hot coals (plus minus 15Cm or 7.87 inches from the heat source) and turned occasionally. The meat tastes different to that cooked with gas or charcoal.

After the meat of choice have been cooked to taste, it can be served with any variety of side dishes such as toasted bread with tomato an onion as relish and potato-salad. The fire is generally re-lit and the prepared meal is enjoyed in front of the burning fire.
Here is a generally what you would require to braai:

1. 12 pieces of dry Wood - Preferable wood that doesn't burn out to quickly and that will leave you with a good heat source once it has burned out. I prefer Rooi-Krans wood.

2. Firelighters and a lighter.

3. Braai - Thongs

4. Meat of your choice. I prefer chops.

5. A safe place where an open flame fire can be lit and a bucket of water - just in case.

6. A good brandy+Coke to enjoy with your friends.

7. Roster to place the meat on."( I'm assuming they mean a roaster)

Can you just picture Mormon missionaries standing around with their brandy and Coke, waiting for meat to cook?!!! I am just kidding, but I thought this sounded pretty fun and I think when the boy returns we will plan a "braai" in his honor...
minus the brandy and coke, of course!!!

An Interesting Email from Michael

This email came AFTER Michael's first email. We were all quite surprised...at least some of us! Ask Ryan what that means.

In the care package send me plenty of goodies. like jerky. and music and talks and stuff like that. :)
Oh and here's a little something else...

"Hello family via Mikey's email!!!!! We would like to make an announcement this morning.....I am sure that it will come as a great surprise to you all to know that the Cutler family is now what we are calling "FOURTH AND GOAL"! We couldn't be happier and I couldn't feel cruddier!!! :) The baby is scheduled to arrive February 17, 2010. We are only about 7 weeks away from finding out what color of baby we will be expecting. Please feel free to call us, but not before 7:30 am.....I do need my rest you know!!!

ALSO......we are asking you all to NOT tell anyone other than our immediate family members until the end of the week so that we can tell the Cutlers when they get home from their trip to VA. I know that is slightly inconvenient, but we would REALLY appreciate it!!!!! Have a lovely morning, Mom, I will talk to you in a few!"

YAY FOR BABIES YAY!!!!!

Amen to that Elder Johnson! We are thrilled to have our 7th grandchild on the way!
Andrea and Ryan have always been very creative in how they have announced their pregnancies, actually all of them have been announced cleverly. But when Michael left on his mission he told his siblings that he wanted to be the first to hear about any new babies. Well, he was! You can imagine how surprised we were to get TWO emails from our missionary in one day, and then for it to be the announcement of a new grandbaby!
Congrats to the Cutler Family! And as this is their last, enjoy every moment!

I know, 2 postings in one day~ but this HAD to be done. We have the best home teachers ever! Dan Deka and Corbin Richards. For those who don't know what a home teacher is, they come visit our family once a month, share a gospel message and just check in on our family. Well, usually the adult takes the lead in this, in this case Dan Deka, but I'm telling you CORBIN RICHARDS ROCKS!!! He calls to set the appointment, teaches the lessons and has even had "object lessons" for us. I just love this kid. Well, they came the other night, while I was still in Houston, and George emailed me these pics. Corbin has shaved his head, is sporting glasses and is truly... George's MINI ME~~~~

I am so proud of my Pioneer Heritage. My ancestors crossed the plains with very little but the clothes on their backs and their faith. But they stood faithful and steadfast to each other and to God. I loved this message from Elder Dallin H.Oaks, and can only hope that I am doing my part to honor those that have gone before me and to be a MODERN-DAY PIONEER that has the true spirit of what the gospel can do in our lives. I am so thankful for all that my Father in Heaven has given me.

Spencer David Jones

After waiting a few days past his due date, our sweet little Spencer has arrived. And let me tell you...he was worth waiting for. He is SOOO adorable. All went well with the labor and delivery and Melissa is amazing. Can I just say that I love being a gramma, but seeing my daughters and daughter-in-law go through the pains and stress of labor is really HARD!!! I am so proud of them all. I love you girls!

Spencer has his own little look. You can tell he and Trevor are brothers but not "cookie cutter". Trevor was very excited to meet his little brother! Spencer has a TON of dark hair, it is so darn cute. Visit Melissa's blog to see more pics of the boy.

We have had such fun over the last few weeks. Well, I guess fun depending on who you ask. Three weeks or so ago my Sister-in-law, Sydnie had MAJOR back surgery. Her incision looked like a spiral notebook! I have never seen anything like it. 12 inches or more of staples! Anyway, after spending about 5 days in the hospital she came here for some TLC. It was such a priviledge to serve her! She stayed for about 5 days and then headed home. The day she went to the doctor to get her staples out, she found out there was a problem with some swelling in the incision sight. Needless to say, she had to go back in for another surgery to repair what they thought was a spinal fluid leak. She spent 4 more days FLAT on her back, and then came back here for a few days.(check out the bruise on her arm from the IV's, that is only one!) I am so proud of her! She is really "ONE TOUGH BROAD"!!!! I mean that with love! Sydnie, so glad you are doing better and we hope and pray that this is the end of surgeries for you! 2 surgeries in 3 weeks is just WRONG! You are my HERO!

The week before Sydnie's second surgery we had Carrie come stay with us while Andrea, Ryan, Maddie and Mia went on a DISNEYLAND adventure! Those little girls were so excited and I think they had a great time. As for Carrie...she was her Papa's little angel! She would sleep 10-12 hours a night, take a 2 hour nap and was sweet as punch! And I thought she would out eat Kevin when it came to PANCAKES... the girl LOVES her "cancakes"!! We enjoyed her so much. Jack and Laura came over one of the days to play. It was great fun!(this was my favorite "morning hair"!!!

Father's Day was fun. We had dinner, watched the pictures of the Disney trip and enjoyed each other's company. Jack especially enjoyed Mia's company. They just love each other. He follows her everywhere and she just loves on him like crazy. She is the first to give his sweet little bald head a rub! There is nothing I love more than to have my family here. I love you all!
And to all the Fathers in my life... my husband, my son and sons-in-law, THANK YOU for all you do to care for your families and to be good husbands and fathers. I love you all so much!

A few weeks ago our ward had a YM/YW activity at the Hendricks' house so Kevin thought he should go dressed in style. Isn't he a cute little cowboy?

So that's been June so far. Only 23 days or so til Baby Jones arrives and I am headed to Houston, to bask in the heat and humidity, and to LOVE LOVE LOVE on my Trevor man and the new baby. Okay, Melissa and David too!

Michael has now been out for 6 months! CRAZY, I know. This email shows his immense growth and love of the work he is doing, and the love he has for the people he serves and for the Savior. I am so proud of him and hope that I am ready for this spiritual giant when he returns! I remember feeling this way about Jeffrey and I am STILL in awe of Jeff's testimony and the "mighty change" that he went through. I can't express the gratitude in my heart for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the opportunity my sons have had and will have to serve fulltime missions. family of mine, how are you all?

Well the good news is that they didn't split the area! so i won't train and will be killing elder douglas!
The Other good news is that things are awesome here!
We have a new investigator who we put on date on the first lesson! We're pumped!
IT's this girl named grace, her parents and sister were all baptized a week or so ago and we got a referral for her from the missionaries that serve in that area and she's cool and very interested!
We also talked to Candice and she said that Natasha wants to join the church! they just have to talk to their mom about it!
As well Kim's (recent convert) little brother graham is a powder keg of gospel knowledge and is super pumped about getting baptised and receiving the aaronic priesthood!
To answer your question mom... no i have yet to baptise or confirm. We are encouraged to have members of the ward do it. So we let them!

Dad i loved what you said about the pastor... it's true all other church's get pretty darn close...but they are all missing a few pieces. And one of those pieces in all of them is... THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. Without the priesthood, there is no g.o.t.h.g.(acronym) and they definately don't have the priesthood. We love explaining how priesthood authority doesn't fall from the sky or come to you by reading the bible a bunch. It comes just the way the bible says it does. (Hebrews 5:4)
Anyways... starting tomorrow me and elder douglas are seriously gonna start getting into good shape again! We have to now since he's going home soon. haha I've got an awesome belly right now. but i shall overcome!
Anyways... one more story from this week as we were taking the sacrament this week at church... i was thinking about the atonement and it scared me... the magnitude of it is beyond any comprehension... but is our commitment and love to the savior beyond any comprehension?? As i thought i came up with this.... Our love and commitment will never match the love and commitment that the saviour shows for us but.... that's what makes atonement so great... ALL HE WANTS IS OUR BEST! He doesn't ask for perfection or for us to match him in any way. he just wants our best, so i just thought about how i should be always be giving my best if for nothing else then solely the atonement!

Gymnastics and Graduation

Thursday was Maddie and Mia's last day of gymnastics and I had been wanting to see them for so long. It was HILARIOUS!! I mean that in a good way. It just brought back so many memories of Andrea. We spent many hours in a gym and she was quite the little gymnast. It was so fun to see Mia and Maddie doing their very best and having such FUN!

Thursday was also Maddie's Kindergarten Graduation! Can you believe that I have a granddaughter old enough to now be a FIRST GRADER!!!
Her graduation was at East Canyon Elementary! Maddie has loved her school and her teacher Ms. Wilkins. I was able to be in the classroom for a class party and to go on a field trip to the zoo and I have to say that Ms. Wilkins is WONDERFUL. I know Maddie and Andrea will miss her...so will I!
Her graduation was so cute. The kids sang three songs and then the Principal handed out awards. Maddie got one for her attendance! Way to go Maddie. She looked darling in her new dress, I was relieved that she liked it and that it fit! She looked so BEAUTIFUL! We are so proud of you Madilyn!

I can't believe my little "Mr. Jack" is already a year old. We had a fun party on Memorial Day for him. Sydnie and The Cutler Clan came over. We had a BBQ and Laura made the cutest baseball cake! Of course we had presents and I think Jack LOVED them all!!! We love this little guy so much. He has quite the personality and Mia absolutely adores him. My favorite gift, ok 2 gifts, were the cars the Cutlers gave him, because he started right off making the PERFECT car noise and the other is the BSU cap we gave him. SOOO CUTE!!!

Great Weekend Fun!

We really had a great weekend. Andrea, Ryan and the girls met up with us at Kevin's last Rugby game as did Jeffrey, Laura and Jack. And we can't forget Sydnie!!! Capital has had an amazing season, going undefeated, and taking the FIRST ever high school Rugby Cup. It was fun having everyone there and Kevin had a great game! He ran the ball a few times and was in on some great tackles. I look forward to nezt year's season.
After the game we all headed home. George, Jeffrey and Ryan went mountain biking, the girls played and we started fixing dinner. Our family fave! Pulled pork burritos!
After dinner we played "wash OOs", a game that Ryan and Jeff introduced to us. It is SOO fun. Too hard to explain, but not to play, so if you want to come and play, just let me know. Ryan and Kevin are the "CHAMPS", they win everytime, although Jeff and I were able to squeak out 1 win, in sudden death! PUNKS! They are really good!
That evening we had our first fire of the season, and I thought Mia was going to go CRAZY!! You can tell by the picture of her that she was so excited. We made "poor man" smores and enjoyed the chill in the air and the warmth of the fire. Then it was off to bed and waking up to Michael's phone call. (see previous post)
George and I said over and over what a perfect weekend it was. We LOVE having our family here and although Melissa, David and Trevor are not with us, we want them to know how much we love them. We are so grateful that they are doing well in Houston. Only 2 more months til that new baby gets here!! We love you Jones'!

I LOVE being a Missionary Mom!

We talked with Michael today and it was FANTASTIC to hear his voice. He is doing so well and is SOO happy. He had so much to tell us and it was nice not having to drag information out of him.
In true Michael style, getting the phone call was rather interesting and stressful! We had planned for his call to come around 8am Sunday morning. George had Bishopric meeting at 9:30 and we figured that would be plenty of time. Well, 8 oclock came and went, 8:30 passed, as did 9:00. George was needing to leave and the kids had all stayed overnight so that they would be here. Sydnie was here and had even brought Krispy Kreme that she went and picked up at 6am!! George decided to leave and I would call him when Michael called us. Well SHORTLY after George left a call came from...Sis. Summers in the mission office! Michael hadn't realized he needed a calling card to call us from the Bishop's office, so that we could then call him back. So... she gave me the number and I called him. George came home and we had a WONDERFUL chat!
He is really enjoying his new area. They have a car..YES, Michael is driving over there, wrong side of the road and all. He says he does fine! SCARY!!! It is getting chilly over there and he said it is a "concrete jungle"! He is actually serving in an area call Bedfordview, which is 20-30 min from Johannesburg. He said it has about 8 million people. They have removed all sister missionaries from South Africa, for safety reasons, but things are ok for Elders to serve there. Yes, that frightens me a little but I put my trust in the Lord that He will keep Michael safe.
Jeffrey was able to talk to Michael all on his own, we left for church, so it will be interesting to see the fianl phone bill. But regardless of the cost, it was so good to talk to him. He made the comment that he has been out just under 6 months and has already used half of his phone calls home. CRAZZY!! It will be a long 7 months til we hear from him again. The way time flies...it will be here before we know it.
I am so proud of Michael. He truly loves the work he is doing and he loves the people he is serving. He is so fired up about member misiionary work. They hardly tract at all, they teach everyday and it is mostly from member referrals. I really need to catch the vision! His testimony is growing and I know that as he continues to be obedient and faithful that he will be successful.
I LOVE having a MISSIONARY SERVING the LORD! Yes, I miss him, but I am so thankful that he is where he is, doing what he is doing and growing in his testimony. Nothing is sweeter, except when they come home!!!!

The Paul Jones Family Comes to Visit (and a few other pics)

Paul and Laura Jones, brother and sister-in-law to David and Melissa came and stayed with us on their way to Seattle. Paul is doing an internship for his law degree this summer. We were SOO excited that they came and spent the night. Of course their DARLING children, Parker and Autumn were here too, and what BEAUTIFUL babies they are. Parker was so fun to play with, and he picked up ALL the toys by himself! What a good boy! And can I say that Autumn is so adorable! We wish them the best on this little adventure and hope they will stop in on their way back to Provo in July.
Thanks for coming Paul and Laura and PLEASE come back!

April 28th was George's birthday and as things have gone lately, I am late adding a post to honor the birthday boy!
As the years go by, and with the milestone bday behind us, turning fifty, it seems our birthdays are easily overlooked. I feel bad because I didn't do much of anything on his very day. We finally got him a much needed cell phone, with every bell and whistle imaginable! Then we went to Kevin's rugby game. We had planned to indulge our dieting selves on a Gandolfos sandwich, but we were late for Kevin's game so we didn't. So you see things weren't real festive! BUT... Saturday the kids all came over, (we missed you Jones Fam) and I cooked all his favorites. Ham and Mac n Cheese. And I might say that it was THE BEST mac and cheese I have ever made!!! I was so glad that the meal was perfect and that he enjoyed himself. OH, I almost forget and I made him a German Chocolate Cake to die for!! So even though his very day was rather disappointing, I think he had a great bday celebration dinner!
I love you, George! Words cannot express the gratitue I have for you and what you do for our family. You are amazing and you are doing some very amazing things right now. THANK YOU!
There is a line in a movie, one he isn't that fond of, but I watched it the other day and it goes something like this, "what if I were a bird?... I'd be a bird too". (Can you name the movie?) Well, it is how I feel about my man, I would do all I could to be where he is, what he is and always with him.

I think Michael looks great and SOO happy. This family is from his first area, Nelspruitt, the Tselas. I believe they are "on date" to be baptized soon. They are BEAUTIFUL! I hope someday I have the pleasure of meeting some of these good people that he is teaching and meeting! Check out his blog to read the last email we received. He has quite the story of a guy they are teaching, not sure how much to believe! Anyway, the smile on his face says it all don't you think?!

I normally post Michael's letters on his blog, but I decided to add this one to mine. It is so amazing to hear the excitement in his voice and to see the hard work he has put in. But mostly, it touches my heart to hear the LOVE he has for the people in Nelspruit. And now he is leaving them. But I know the success he has had is just the beginning and that as long as he continues to teach with the spirit and stays obedient to the Lord and the mission that he will spread the same enthusiasm in Edenvale as he did in Nelspruit.
After our Youth's Stake Conference session this past weekend, and now hearing his urgency to encourage us to have missionary experiences, I suppose it is time to hit the knees and put my faith in the Lord that I can find someone to share the gospel with.
Can I just say, that I love this young man, and that I am a very proud mother! I knew because of his obedience and his capacity to love that he would be a successful missionary. He is just so easy to love and I know that the people he has taught will miss him. I look forward to the day that I can meet them!
Anyway, here is his email but I want to make it perfectly clear that although I am VERY grateful that Melissa's email got to him, I will take over the MVFM title as soon as possible, after all I AM HIS MOTHER!!! JK!

For some reason i didn't get the email from mom and dad... and the
rest of the fam... but if you could forward this email to them and as
well have them resend their other one, that would be great.
Anyways... This saturday i got the news that i will be transfered to
Edenvale. Which is in the Jo'Burg area. So that's gonna be
interesting! I guess it's a pretty rich area. I'm gonna have a lot of
fun. anyways.... i am leaving the area with 4 people on date! We put
Precious on date last on tuesday night! So hopefully the nelspruit
branch will grow by 4 on may 24, 2009. Anyways I'm totally freaking
out though. The next elder better be good and ready to work hard.
cause if any of those fall through i am gonna throw a fit. But i am
excited for the challenge of a new area. I guess the area im goin to
is right by this place called Bruma. Which is this huge place full of
Curios Shops... which is where you buy all the traditional african art
stuff and what not! so that's exciting! There are also two wards
there. So i'm going from an area with barely one branch to one with 2
wards! i am so pumped!
I'm kinda scared though cause the way things are working out it's
looking like a situation where i might train in 3 months.... that
could be scary. But awesome at the same time. So there are gonna be
lots of crazy stuff happening in the next little while!
Next week i'll be sure to send you all the pictures of me with some of
my investigators as well as some of the members down here!
Anyways... as far as you are all concerned.... make sure you're doing
member missionary work.
We had this sister complain about not being able to feed the
missionaries and about how they are missing out on blessings because
of it. And i just said Don't worry about feeding us with food, just
feed us refferals. Cause noone does member missionary work here. So i
want you to all to always be doing all you can to spread the gospel
and give the elders help in teaching the people. If you help them then
the work is much more effective. so just remember that and maybe set a
goal to have someone you know be taught by the missionaries by the end
of the month, summer, year.... whatever you think you can do!

Belated Birthday, and Rugby

I am so behind on my blogging. Kevin's birthday was March 29th, and I haven't even posted about him yet. I can't believe my baby is SEVENTEEN! He is now the ONLY child and I think it really bugged him at first but he is getting used to it...to us! He is so easy to get along with and just takes care of business. He works VERY hard in school and it is paying off.
He really wanted new skiis for his birthday and they were not in our birthday budget, so we gave him his allotted amount and he paid the rest. He is very excited to get the bindings for them and have them ready for next year.
He is working EXTREMELY hard for football! It is hard to believe that it is already Spring Camp time, well almost, and then it will be summer workouts and Gold Beach. I am really proud of him for how hard he works and the time he sacrifices to be in the gym, and he even does another separate workout on his own. I just hope it pays off for him. All the while he has a 4.0 in school and is hoping to score a 28 or above on the ACT. Which he did, with a 28. But he wants to retake it and try to get a higher score. His goal is to go to BYU the summer term right after graduation. That way he gets 1 term and 2 semesters in before his mission...see what I mean, he is DRIVEN!
Another activity he is involved in is, RUGBY! Man I love this sport. It looks like chaos but it is really fun to watch and he LOVES to play it. I posted some pics of him playing. The two where they are all huddled together is called a "SCRUM". The ball is placed on the ground and the team who has possesion taps it backwards with their feet, when it reaches the last player the ball is picked up and can be kicked, or lateralled to another player. Sounds confusing, but after just 2 games I am hooked and learning more every time I watch. One of the pics shows Kevin with the ball and lateralling it to another player. Is "lateralling" a real word?! One you just see is "booty" and the other one you can tell it's him on the end. Anyway they play on Saturdays at Eagle Middle School, usually at 12:30 if you want to come watch!
By the way, they have only been scored on (a score is called a TRY) in one game, they are FEARED by the other teams! And the team that scored on them had to do it by kicking rather than getting the try! They really are AWESOME!!! Kevin is #6 in the pics...check out his HUMONGUS thighs. A sign of a good rugby player!
I also want to give a shout out to Laura and Jeff who also celebrated birthdays. Laura's was the 14th of April and Jeff's was today the 19th! We celebrated with the family favorite...pork chops and Jeff chose banana splits for his dessert. Ryan, Andrea and the girls joined us, along with Joan and Sydnie. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed having everyone here. We missed you Jones'!!!!!
I baked Laura a cake on her very day, and gave her a great "THANK YOU" card! Long story but will now be a great family joke! We also gave them concert tickets for "Death Cab for Cutie" which we are all going to on the 25th. We sure love you and hope this year brings you much joy and happiness! You two are terrific!

Spring Break in HOUSTON

Well, it's about time I posted my adventures in Houston. I had a FABULOUS time with Melissa, David and Trevor. I arrived in Houston on Wednesday and let me say it was AWESOME. I came through the gate and could hear Trevor yelling..."LEE LEE" and then he came a runnin'. Let me just say, it was amazing to have that little guy so excited to see me. Then as we got in the car he asked me to sit next to him. WOW! What a big Texas Welcome!! Just a side note, I left Boise early in the morning dressed in a black sweatshirt. The temperature in Spring when I got there was 79 degrees. I was sweating like crazy! But it felt great to be warm! Melissa and I enjoyed the time we had together, just being together! I was able to help her with a little sewing project for the "little boys'" bedroom. I told her that she now takes over that beloved title... "the little boys" have always been Michael and Kevin but now she will have her own "little boys"! I am so excited for Trevor, he will be a great big brother. I cherished the time I had with Trevor. We read books, played with his cars, went to the park, snuggled in bed in the mornings and just spent time together. He is SOOO smart. He knows his ABC's, he can identify his letters and can count to 20! In Sydnie's words...GENIOUS!! David grilled up some DELICIOUS chicken on his new grill, AND we ate outside. The weather was PERFECT! We went to the Woodlands and took the Waterway boat ride and then went into the Market Place. It is a cool place, with shops, places to eat, a splash pad and a grassy area to run and play. The atmosphere is a lot like the Grove on First Thursday. (I think that's what it's called) We did a little shopping, but I need to bring an empty suitcase next time and do some SERIOUS shopping! Just kidding, George! Speaking of...George and Kevin arrived on Tuesday evening and then the fun really began! Of course it was fun to see Trevor with Kevin. They played football and cars and one of Trevor's favorite things to do is to run through the house. He got Kevin to chase him and I think that was the best cardio workout Kevin's had in long time. We went out to dinner to our favorite Mexican place...YUMMY!!! And for Kevin's birthday, we went for Bar-B-Que. Kevin was not disappointed! We topped it off with some Blue Bell ice cream. One of the highlights was going to the Johnson Space Center! We took a tour that included a peek at the infamous control center. You know the one from Apollo 13. "Houston, we have a problem". It is amazing to see how far we've come in our technology. George was like a kid in a candy store. He was disappointed that he didn't get to see the big missile,the Saturn V, it was closed because of weather. We did see plenty of the "mock-ups" and it was amazing to see how large they are up close. Trevor was so good during the whole time we were there. He really is a good boy, and as long as he can run a little bit he hangs in there. It is no wonder Melissa looks so good, she has to be able to keep with that boy! Melissa and I took George and Kevin back to the Woodlands Mall and Trevor took Kevin for a ride on the carousel. We then rode the trolley to the Market Place so the guys could see the splash pad. Trevor LOVED the trolley ride. Our last day they took us to an Arboretum. It was so beautiful. I couldn't help thinking how much my mother and George's mother would have loved it. They were having a huge sale where you could walk through and pick out the plants/trees you wanted and then go and buy them. It was quite the set up. There was a fun park that Trevor got to play at and we got to ride behind a tractor on the way back that Trevor really enjoyed! All in all it was a great trip and as always ended too soon. The only positive about leaving is that I will be back in July when the baby is born. I am hoping the "outdoor Air Conditioning" is working by then. What? You mean there isn't any? Houston in July will be miserable, but worth it when that new grandson makes his entrance. Thanks to David for putting up with his "mother-in-law" for 11 days. But I guess he better buck up, cuz I will probably be there longer in July! And to Melissa, you are such a wonderful mother, and wife. You are patient, kind and so sweet. I love you! Thanks for the great visit.
I have tried to get a slideshow of our pictures posted but I am HORRIBLE at figuring it out. After checking Melissa's blog she has done a wonderful job on 2 different slidshows. I have to post these pictures of Elder J here on my blog and on his blog, because I have waited for SOOO long to get them. I think Michael looks absolutely FANTASTIC! I am so thrilled to see the joy on his face and I just know that he is loving every minute of his mission and everyone he comes in contact with. PLEASE stop by his blog to read his emails and see how much he is changing as he is serving the Lord in South Africa. And I would love it if you would leave a comment so I can see who visits! A few weeks ago 2 of his best friends stopped by the house. Logan made the comment, " I can just see Michael in the middle of South Africa in his skinny legged jeans"! And there he is. Today is the day I travel to Houston to spend time with TREVOR!!! Ok, Melissa and David too! I am so excited to have this time with them. I have had a few misgivings about leaving my good husband for this long, as his days are long and stressful and I'd like to think I make them a little easier by at least having dinner on the table before he is off to the Bishop's office. But he assured me that there is no where he'd rather I be! THANKS BABE! (I was more prepared with meals and laundry then ever before...hopefully it will help reduce some of the stress!)
So when I arrived at the Houston airport I was greeted by Trevor shouting: LEE LEE!! at the top of his lungs. Talk about a tear jerker for this gramma. He then ran up to me and threw his arms around my neck. WOW- that felt like a million bucks. And then to top it off he asked me to sit next to him in the van. I am the luckiest gramma in the whole world.
I know it can't be all that thrilling for David to have his MIL here for 10 days, but I am so happy to be here and I will do my best to earn my keep. Melissa and I have a few projects planned and some much needed "mother-daughter" time to spend together.
Melissa looks wonderful, pregnancy is agreeing with her and I love to watch them as a family. They are WONDERFUL!!
To my babies back home: I will miss you while I am gone and send hugs and kisses every day. I will be home soon and we can have a party at Papa's house! Maybe a hike to the Great Valley will be in order, with treasure and treats!

I can't believe our baby girl is a year old already! It is so true what they say about time going by faster the older you get. She is such a beautiful little girl and has definitely found her niche in the family.
We love you so much "C-Bear"!
We went out to Ryan and Andrea's for a little celebration and it was fun watching her and Jack. I think they are going to be very good buddies! Maddie and Mia were very helpful when it came to opening Carrie's gifts and they were pretty excited with Carrie's new kitchen set. Finally her VERY OWN! I tried to get a picture but I was struggling with the camera.
I think she really enjoyed her day and I hope she knows how very much Papa and LeeLee love her. (We missed you Trevor, Melissa and David.)

Visiting Kathryn and the Ruesch Family

I had such a wonderful weekend in St. George with Kathryn, and Holly and her wonderful family. I flew into Las Vegas and Kathryn came and picked me up-THANK YOU! We drove on into St. George and I have to say the drive was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The Gorge was amazing. Once we got there we went and had lunch and then we were off to Hurricane where Holly and Jason live. Her friends and family were throwing a baby shower for her and Baby Bella. Holly has 4 of the most remarkable boys! I LOVE them! And now there is to be little girl coming to that sweet family. Things have gone from BLUE to PINK! And that little girl will have 4 very protective brothers. I pity the boy that shows up for Bella's first date!
We enjoyed the shower and then we went to Caden's basketball game. He is 6 and a mini NBA star. He quickly had 16 of 20 points and a victory. It was a good day for Cody, Brady and Caden on the court...all victorious!! Jaxson is not far behind his brothers!
The next day was Sunday and I was able to go to church with Kathryn. And then she took me to her place of work. I was FASCINATED and IMPRESSED with what she does and am convinced that she is not paid enough for what she does. You are very good at what you do and I am very proud of you, Kathryn.
Then off to Holly's for dinner and a few games of Wii. I was greeted by BSU fans! Don't they look AWESOME! Those boys are so much fun. Thanks guys for making me feel so welcome and loved. I really hope I can come visit you all again.
It was a wonderful weekend and I am so glad I was able to go and spend that time with my sister. I can't believe I didn't get a picture of us! Holly and J, you have a beautiful family and I am so happy that you are getting your little girl. Those boys are going to be so sweet with her. When life is handing you way too much...try to enjoy the journey because it will be over before you know it.

Happy "Dirt"day to my sweet granddaughter Mia! We had such a fun day with her. Papa and I took her to Build-a-Bear so she could make her very own...Hello Kitty! That was the theme of her birthday party! She was so adorable. It is quite the experience and she was a little overwhelmed by the whole process but after getting the stuffing in the doll, or whatever you call a Hello Kitty, she did great. She gave it a bath, and brushed it and then we took her shopping for an outfit. Mia immediately picked out a little sofa chair, a little dress with hearts on it and matching shoes. Thanks to a few coupons she was able to "score" all her picks!(Thanks Laura S. for the coupons!)We had SOO much fun with her. We had a few other errands to do at the mall so by the time we got to the car she was tuckered out. It took all of 5 min and she was asleep for the ride back to Caldwell.
Papa and I were able to give her wishes on the little hearts they put in every stuffed animal. I wished for her to live long and have the blessing of motherhood and Papa George wished for her to have a happy life!!

Out with the Old...in with the New

And so...a new year begins. I have been doing a lot of pondering about this last year, 2008, and if I am satisfied with how it went. First of all, it "went" and very quickly. I am amazed that the old adage that " time passes more quickly the older you get" is really true. I can remember as a child that Christmas Break seemed like a month and that my birthday took FOREVER to come. Now, I can't seem to get the decorating done but what it is time to take it down and with this birthday coming, the big 5-0, I wish it would take FOREVER to come!! Actually turning 50 doesn't really bother me. I am comfortable in the place I am, in my skin. The "gramma" gig is the BEST thing I have ever done. I hope as time passes I get as good at it as my children's grandparents did. Those are really big shoes to fill! But I plan to have a lot of time to try!

So.. back to 2008. It was a decent year. I have plenty of areas to improve, don't we all. I know what I want to improve, and am trying to figure just how to do it. I know it won't happen overnight, but I know it can be done. I read an article in the Dec. '94 Ensign by Elder Christensen that really struck a chord. He suggests four areas:

*intellect- read good books-STUDY the scriptures-"to continue learning throughout our lives, and especially learning more about the gospel."

*physical-"I will be resolute in preserving and strengthening my physical health."

*social-"I resolve to be a truer friend and to become more socially acceptable to people of high standards. " SMILE- Be Genuinely interested in others-Remember the person's name!-Be a good listener- Be in engaged in other's interests- Make the other person feel important

*spiritual- "I will grow spiritually—I will increase in favor with God." There is some really great suggestions in this area. Find the article and read it!

____we must resolve to overcome as much as possible the sin of pride

____resolve now that you will read from the scriptures daily

____resolve to really pray and not just say prayers.

____ if you are really serious about growing spiritually, then “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy

____if you are a young man, resolve to be worthy of fulltime mission service

There is so much more to this, so please take time to read it.

This has become quite the rambling, but I hope it helps inspire you who read it, as it is me, as I write it.

2008 brought lessons of love, sacrifice, service, obedience, faltering, pride, tolerance, and many other things both positive and negative. My only hope is that I have learned from them, that I am able to build upon that which is good and let go of that which is bad.

Through it all, I have a deeper love for my husband, my children and their spouses, my grandchildren, my siblings, and most of all, my Savior. I have a sure knowledge of His love for me and of His divinity. I know that through it all He is there for me. That His atonement is real, it is our gift from Him. If we use it, it will heal us, it will strengthen us, and it will save us.

For the new year...2009...I look forward to improving upon the suggestions of Elder Christensen. I certainly need it! I look forward to my missionary serving, and witnessing the growth that comes in serving the Lord. I look forward to serving my ward members and my neighbors. I am excited to watch Kevin as he approaches his final year of high school. I'm excited to welcome a new grandchild(Melissa and David's) and look forward to any others that might join us!!I plan to enrich my marriage through service, sacrifice and temple attendance. I look forward to doing family history, and in doing so gaining stronger relationships with my ancestors as well as my siblings. I am determined to get my physical body in better condition, and even more determined to get my "spirit" in better condition. It won't happen quickly, or without MUCH sacrifice, but I trust in the words of Elder Christensen: "In so doing, we will become happier, more successful, and more like the Savior every day for the rest of our lives."

This was a self-indulgent post. It is for my family, as well as for myself.

May the New Year bring JOY, PEACE and LOVE to all of you and the righteous blessings we all need.

WOW! November and December's Been a Killer

Anyone else feel that way? I don't know if it was the stress of getting Michael off, having family here, Thanksgiving, a Bishop living in the house, tithing settlement, a backache, grieving my missionary leaving(not too bad), helping with the football banquet (which I finally turned over to someone else) decorating for the Holidays, Christmas shopping, finding out that the $24.00 worth of goodies for Michael would cost $140.00 to send, sewing projects out the ying yang, starting the "prep" for a colonoscopy(Monday) or ... well I won't share anymore. The last one on the list was probably TMI anyway!!!!
Can I say that having our family here was SPECTACULAR ! We had our family pictures taken and they are so awesome. I really have a beautiful family. I love you all so very much!
We had our Thanksgiving dinner on the Friday before Tday, while everyone was here. We had such a great time together. Friends have often wondered why we moved. Well, we had everyone staying here and I feel so blessed to have this home that can accomodate us all. Kevin slept on the couch but that happens anyway. As I mentioned we had our pictures taken and everyone looked so amazing! THANKS to you all for your patience! Michael's "farewell" was great and in true "Mikey" style had us laughing at the "opportunity" he gave his Dad to participate. You had to be there! Thanks to everyone who came to his meeting and then stopped by the house to wish him well.

The holidays are well on their way. I love this time of the year. I am absolutetly obsessed with the movie "White Christmas". My family tolerates it from Thanksgiving to Christmas (ok Halloween) and at least once in the summer. Christmas in July? Anyway, I have set a new record, I have watched it too many times to report, but trust me, it is on EVERYDAY and I don't care who snickers at it. This is my thing and I am not embarrassed to say it. If anyone out there has never seen it you are missing out on a classic. Come by, it will probably be on!!!

More than anything I love the joy and promise this time of year brings. I am so thankful for the birth of the Savior, which we celebrate, and I rejoice in His glory and His reign as the Savior of the world, born in lowly circumstance, to humble parents. The Prince of Peace!

May the spirit of this season touch us all to serve and love our fellowman and then go forward and continue to honor Him, everyday!

Happy Anniversary- November 16, 1979

This is a few days late but I figured "better late than never"!

We just celebrated our 29th anniversary, and as I look back on the years, I can't imagine being without my George! We were telling Melissa about our wedding day and how I spent the night before in a hotel with my parents and George stayed at his grandma's house. The day of our wedding we were to be at the temple by 7:30am, I was there, George was NOT! With only one bathroom and 5 or 6 people to get ready, things got a little hairy-scary! I thought that after waiting 2 years for him on a mission, he had better not stand me up! He didn't !! Obviously!

We had a beautiful day, a reception in Ogden that night and then a lovely honeymoon in Sun Valley. We had another reception in Boise the next weekend. We went to a football game that day and we ended up being late for our pictures. My mother was not happy to say the least! But hey, Borah beat Boise!! (I went to Borah, George went to Boise)

5 kids, 3 new in-law kids, and 5 BEE-UUU-TIFUL grandchildren later we are as happy as can be and feel very blessed to have such a wonderful life together.

Thanks, babe for the great times, for hangin in there through the tough times and being my best friend! Strap yourself in sweetie ... we're in this for the long haul. Like I say to my daughters, you too Laura, "this is forever"!!!

Michael's 19 years old!

My boy, Mikey, is 19 years old today. I commented earlier that when he was 3, I couldn't ever imagine him being 19 and now it is here and he is 2 weeks to the day away from leaving on his mission.

He sang in his last "gig" last night at the Venue, what a ride that has been. "We Won the Science Fair" has been a great experience for Michael and I know he will miss his music while he is gone. I do hope that he has MANY opportunities to share his talents while serving his mission.

I will miss the sound of his guitar, the piano, but mostly his voice as he has spent many an hour playing and singing. One of the highlights for me was being able to sing in church with him a month or so ago.

Today, I want to tell him that he has been a JOY in my life. I can't imagine my life without him and although the miles will be many that separate me from him, I will think of him EVERDAY, I will hear his voice in my head EVERYDAY and I will wait patiently as he serves the Lord to return to me. I cannot be more proud of you, Michael! You truly have become an outstanding young man. You have such integrity and have shown it through your obedience to your parents but more than anything to your Heavenly Father. I thank you! It is a priviledge beyond words to be your mother!

A Random Sampling!

Our very own "Tricker Treaters" were SOO adorable! Maddie was a gymnast wearing a leotard that was her mommy's when she competed for Wings. Mia was our sweet little "cow", she can shake that tail like none other!!! We didn't get a picture of Carrie, but she was a little pumpkin. Trevor was a scarecrow and Mel was Dorothy! Too cute! And last but not least, Mr. Jack was..."Jack" in a Box! How clever! And how CUTE!!!

November is here in full swing! We've had a few UPs and a few DOWNs.
Football playoffs went great until last week when we were eliminated by Mt. View. It was a heart breaker and we were all sad that it was over. We are so PROUD of Kevin and we are looking forward to next year! GO EAGLES!

Melissa and Trevor are here for a few weeks and it has been so much fun. We had ALL the kids here for a long weekend and there was never a dull moment. The grandkids had a blast playing with the train set, climbing the hill, and playing with playdough. Ryan brought his Rock Band game and believe me they "ROCKED" til all hours! Papa George was our favorite and Sydnie did a wicked vocal!

The fun will continue as we count down the days until Michael leaves for his mission to South Africa Johannesburg, on November 25th. We are also looking forward to David coming on the 20th! We will all be together one last time for 2 years. Although it is always hard to have one or more of children far away, when a son is on a mission there is a special spirit that is always present and the blessings that come are amazing. To those not of our faith it is hard to understand how we could send our sons and daughters out on missions but the way is prepared and the benefits far outweigh the sacrifice. We owe so much to our Savior Jesus Christ and having a worthy son serve a mission to proclaim the gospel is one way of showing our love and respect to Him. Michael has made this choice and we are very proud of him!

We also attended our last BSU game together! We figured out that we have been going to games for 12 years! It started out as a way for George and I to spend some "quality" time with our "little boys"! They were being dragged around to all the older kids activities and games and were missing out on time with us. This has been one of the most memorable things we have ever done. We feel so blessed to have spent this time with our boys. We have gone through some of the rough years of Bronco football and have witnessed the finest seasons of football ever at Boise State. We've sat through heat, rain, snow and freezing cold temperatures. We experienced the agony of defeat,(Boston College H-bowl game) and the taste of brilliance! FIESTA BOWL!!! We had SOO much fun at that game, it made the road trip worth it. So to the Broncos I say thank you for 12 years of great entertainment and to my "little boys" thanks for being my best friends and for becoming young men that have taught me far more than I have taught you! By the way... a few years in to it, Sydnie joined us and we have loved every minute! To Kevin, now that Michael will be gone, I guess it is up to you!

Trick or Treat....SCOOP and SCORE!

Tomorrow is Halloween and I can't wait to see the grandbabies all dressed up in their costumes. I have to admit that Halloween is my LEAST favorite holiday and it has rubbed off onto some of my kids a little bit. Melissa seems to love the holiday, but Jeff and Kevin barely liked it when they were young trick or treaters, I know they don't care for it now. Jeff may have to change his tune since marrying into the Hessing Clan!! I will post pictures of the kids after the day is done so we can see them in their costumes!(thanks Cutlers for the Jack-o-Lantern picture)
Are you wondering what a "SCOOP and SCORE" is? Well ask #31!! Kevin scored a touchdown off a fumble in his Junior Varsity game tonight! He "scooped" it up, stiff-armed a BIG o-lineman, and broke a few tackles to run it in 20 yards for the "score"!

Life is Good

Life IS good but very busy. I just haven't had much time to do the bloggin thing. What have we been doing? Kevin's football season is in full force. Both the JV and Varsity teams are undefeated, and the "real" season begins this week against Meridian. One of our star players was injured last week and will be out for 3-4 weeks, and our QB is a little banged up but I think we have enough depth that all will be well for the CAPITAL EAGLES!!
I started a part time job with the school district. It is really perfect. 4 days a week just 3 hours a day. I am working with the teacher I was originally hired by way back in 1997(ish)! We are working with the developmentally delayed preschoolers, 3-5 years old, and I think it will be great! So that is a little change in my routine but one I needed and am enjoying.
We continue the preparation for Michael's mission. He leaves 2 months from tomorrow. HARD TO BELIEVE! We went today and purchased his suits, luggage, shirts, etc, and I have to say he will be a mighty handsome Elder!! We are waiting on on his Visa info, background check etc, and then we'll mail that into SLC and he'll be good to go.He is also an official temple recommend holder and we plan to go through with him in the next week or so. He has been taking Temple Prep classes and will be good to go! We are so excited for him.
In keeping with tradition, the "boys" are headed to Salt Lake for Conference. They will attend the Priesthood session. It is a wonderful opportunity for George and his 3 boys to spend some quality time together. A very special THANK YOU to Laura and Jack for letting Jeffrey go, again!!! You are AWESOME Laura Jean!!
By the way Laura...let's go have dinner or something while those guys are gone!!!

The Eagles defeated the Braves in the season opener 14-0. It wasn't quite the "router" we were hoping for but Kevin got in on a few plays and had a GREAT tackle!! Borah is next and even though I WAS a very proud lion, my heart belongs to #31, in the BLACK and GOLD!!! Let's Go EAGS!!!

George and I were able to go to TEXAS and visit The Joneses!! We had such a wonderful time. Melissa and I had been counting the days til we got there and then we hoped time would stand still while I was there. It almost worked!

The first few days consisted of getting to know Trevor, or rather him getting to know us. We went into Houston to see David's work place and it was absolutely amazing. It is like a city inside a city! There were hospitals on every corner. We were very impressed.

Of course, we ate very good food, we went to church and to the Houston Temple, we took Papa George to Target and let him chase Trevor while we shopped, and most of all we spent time with Mel, David, and Trevor! They have a beautiful home and it made me feel so much better knowing where Melissa is while we have our chats on the phone. And now I can visualize right where Trevor is playing with his train set and reading his books.
George left on Sunday and I stayed for another week. I can't begin to tell you how wonderful that time was. I held Trevor while he slept for 2 1/2 hours. It was HEAVENLY! Melissa and I went shopping... more than once!! We went to the Splash Pad, the Play Tree and rode the Carousel. We watched "White Christmas", she IS my daughter!!! But most of all I watched her be a mother and wife in her own home and I am so proud of her and David and the wonderful life they are making together!
I do not recommend Houston in August, but I look forward to more visits in the Spring or Winter months! Thanks Melissa and David for a great time!

'Tis the Season!!

The smell is in the air! The T-shirts and hats are dusted off! The Boise State flag and wreath are proudly displayed! Al has announced the first tailgate meal and Coach Pete has a quarterback!!
IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON and I couldn't be more excited!!!!
As you can tell I gave my blog a facelift and if you are wondering what teams I support... well just take a look and there should be NO question.
Saturday is the first "scrimmage"... I mean "game" for BSU against the ISU Bengals. Although it may be a "snoozer" of a game it is still the season opener and it will be AWESOME to be back on the "BLUE" and cheering on the Broncos!
Hopefully the BYU fans in my family will still visit my blog. After all, I am sporting the Chicago Bears as my background!
Here's a shout out for Kevin. He is playing for Capital High. #31!! If you want to go watch a game look for a schedule that I'll be adding soon. His first game is Sept. 5th at Bronco Stadium against...his dad's alma mater, the Boise Braves! The following week the Eagles take on my alma mater, the Borah Lions. Let's Go EAGS!!

Michael received his mission call this week and we are in TX!!! It was great being able to share the fun with Melissa and David. He did a great job to start out reading slowly and clearly so we could understand him on speakerphone, but then...everyone was yellin and screamin so loud when he said where he was going that we couldn't hear. Oh... I'm rambling along,

SOUTH AFRICA JOHANNESBURG reporting Nov. 27th which is Thanksgiving Day!!! He'll miss BSU's last game but I think by then he won't care. Maybe Ryan and David would like to go along with us!!!
He leaves from Boise and goes straight to the MTC there in South Africa.
It is amazing to me how the Lord knows each one of us. Michael had even said this was a place he would like to go.
I will send some pics/video along later of him opening his letter so we can all see the craziness!!!

Conquering Mt. Borah

George and Kevin left Monday on our ward's High Adventure, the plan... to climb Mt. Borah. THEY DID IT!! Along with leaders Adam Levanger( 2nd Counselor to George in the Bishopric), Andrew Fales (our ward Mission Leader) and Young Men, Hayden and Corbin Richards, Tanner Winegar, and Asher Sundred they climbed all 12,662 feet! I am so proud of my guys and the others! George said it was one of the most grueling things he's ever done and Kevin is now actually looking forward to 2-a-days for football!( Not really) Chicken Out Ridge lived up to it's name and the climb was far more challenging than anyone had imagined. Reaching the summit was satisfying and rewarding. Will George ever do it again... not likely.
Way to go guys! Now go get a SHOWER!
